Guided by director and wrangler of scientists Peter Byck, “Roots So Deep” is a 4-part documentary series about adaptive cattle ranchers and their conventional neighbors across the fence, and a group of scientists conducting ground-breaking research that explores the costs and benefits of grazing in harmony with nature. 

Following five neighboring farm pairs across the United States, the series brings together farmers, ranchers, and scientists in a groundbreaking research project comparing adaptive and conventional grazing practices. By collecting years of real-world data on both sides of the fence, researchers examine how grazing management impacts soil health, biodiversity, water cycling, and the resilience of working lands. 

Through compelling stories, humor, and scientific discovery, Roots So Deep challenges assumptions and invites viewers into a thoughtful conversation about the future of agriculture, the role of livestock, and the stewardship of our working landscapes. 
 
Dinner is provided during the screening, which will conclude with Q&A with the producer, Peter Byck. A meal and refreshments are provided. This is the evening before the start of the Southern Family Farmers & Food Systems Conference in San Marcos, so come have dinner with us before the conference kicks off.
