New York Producer Trainings
Farm to school programs can improve the health of students while strengthening the local agricultural economy by incentivizing schools to bring New York food products into cafeterias. Yet, getting local products into K-12 cafeterias can be challenging for farmers and producers.
Bringing the Farm to School Producer Trainings will prepare New York farmers and producers to understand the state’s unique school markets, how to develop and market products for institutional sales, and increase opportunities for New York farmers to bridge connections with local schools. These trainings are best suited to established producers who are ready to begin selling to schools. There is no fee to attend and we will be offering a $100 participation stipend to farmers.
American Farmland Trust, through the collaborative initiative Farm to Institution New York State, is excited to offer a one-day training for producers to support farmers in accessing the fast-growing school market! Learn more in this one-pager overview and find details below. You can preview the training content in the “Bringing the Farm to School: Agricultural Producers’ Toolkit.”
For more information or if you have questions, please reach out to Stephanie Hsu (shsu@farmland.org) or Cheryl Bilinski (cbt32@cornell.edu). Programming is supported by Department of Agriculture and Markets, American Farmland Trust, and Cornell Harvest NY.
